It’s official – 2012 was the year Unst F.C. won the Parish Cup, Shetland’s most sought after silverware.
After defeating the West Side 7-1 in the semi-final, the pressure was on Unst to regain the Parish Cup after a drought of 12 years. Up against them were a strong Whitedale team determined to get their name on the trophy.
There were over 1000 people there to watch the final at the Gilbertson Park, with the majority rooting for the Britain’s most northerly football team. In what was a closely contested match, Unst were the victors as the final scoreline read 3-1 to the boys in blue and white. Scorers for Unst were David and Erik Thomson, the latter also picking up the man of the match award for an outstanding shift which culminated in a glorious individual goal.
