Hermaness Nature Reserve is a national reserve of international significance. It’s often the ‘go-to’ for visitors to spot wildlife, nature and the beautiful views of Muckle Flugga – the most northerly point in the UK. Make it to the end, and you’ll often find the locals out for a walk just to make sure the views are still as amazing as the last time they visit.
Hermaness is home to the third largest colony of flying pirates in the world – the bonxies or great skuas – and during summer some 25,000 pairs of puffins breed in burrows on the cliff edges. Hermaness is also a place to spot many fulmars and gannets. The views of Muckle Flugga Lighthouse are also a highlight. Click here for more information.
Walking to the point of Hermaness will take approximately 2 hours. Park at the carpark in Burrafirth, and head north on the footpath. Please be careful!
