A big thankyou to all 166 people that braved the wind and rain for the palais glide this afternoon! We didn’t beat the record this year but did very very well considering the weather! Soup and sandwiches were put on to warm everybody up.

Unst’s first Tall Ship of the 2011 Tall Ships Race arrived in Baltasound on Saturday night. The Moosk were the first to Unst and in doing so, find themselves the better off – having won their skipper’s weight in Unst beer and local produce. Congratualtions!

In the hours of darkness on Monday night, two hamsters were kidnapped from the Unst Bus Shelter. Those responsible are believed to be the notorious UnstFest Bucaneers. A ransom note has been left demanding one thousand doubloons and a belly full of Valhalla Beer for their safe return.

This year’s treasure hunt was another major success with in excess of the 30 participants. The hunt involved them scouring the isle for answers to questions, feathers and bald heads!

The Baltasound SWRI return for the third year, delivering their bannock making masterclass. Again, the course was fully booked out and the participants had a great time with the SWRI enouragement.

Unbreakable
Unbreakable again this year, was an excellent tournament run by the Unst Leisure Centre. Participants, some in weird and wack fancy dress, took part in a series of games and sports, beginning in pairs but being split up when defeated. The final pair left together were classed as Unbreakable.
Winners this time were birthday girl Hazel Spence and Kevin Priest.
U Dance has been very popular this year, with Mairi Coutts leading the youngsters through their paces and dance moves. Look back soon for some video of the end product.
