Children’s Land Sports & Unstfest Olympics

Fun land based races and activities for children of all ages to take part in. With the Olympics around the corner you can also try your hand at some of the Unstfest Olympic events – who will be fastest over the fish box hurdles and who can fling the neep the farthest?

Baltasound Sailing Regatta

Baltasound Pier and Marina will host the Baltasound Sailing Regatta which attracts boats from Unst, Yell and Whalsay. Races are sailed from 10am and spectators are welcome. There will be plenty to do on land too with a beer tent and food available. Land sports for children and the Unstfest Olympics will take place from 2pm throughout the afternoon.

Gutter Street Kartie Race

Get your crash helmets on for taking part in the first ever Gutter Street Kartie Race.

Bring along your home made Kartie and see how it fares against the competition. Races for men, women and children and prizes to be won. Fancy dress is essential and helmets must be worn during the race. Spectators most welcome.

Celebrate lifting the silverware afterwards in the Baltasound Hall where the bar will be open and the prizes will be awarded.

Buness House – Doors Open Day

Come along to Buness House, a Listed, 16th century Laird’s house and find out a bit more about the amazing history of the house and the artefacts within it.

Cream Teas will also be served in the conservatory overlooking the seashore of Baltasound to round off your memorable tour of Buness House.

Belmont House Community Gardens – Doors Open Day

The garden at the recently refurbished Belmont House is being developed into a community garden – open to the public the whole year through. In spring time a riot of daffodils, it is slowly being restored into it’s original Georgian splendor. Come along and have a look at how the work is coming along.

Speed Crafting

Woodland @ Halligarth – Doors Open Day

Ever wondered how there came to be a woodland in the middle of Unst, where trees are a rare sight?

Come along to this guided tour of the Halligarth Trees, now managed by the National Trust for Scotland, and find out more about the history of the woodland and the flora and fauna within it’s walls.

Zero Carbon House – Doors Open Day

Come along and meet Dot and Michael Rae who have live in the Zero Carbon House. It was designed to embrace the concept of low carbon living, using low cost/high efficiency technology to create a comfortable and affordable lifestyle in any climate.

If you are interested in ways to cut your carbon foot print and reduce your energy usage then this is the house and garden for you.

Children welcome, easy disabled access and refreshments provided. Parking is limited so additional parking areas are available at the Uyeasound Galley Shed or the Uyeasound School.
