(this includes instruments that pupils may be receiving instrumental instruction on.)<\/li>\n<li>To develop the pupil\u2019s ability to compose and\/or improvise music.<\/li>\n<li>To develop the pupil\u2019s understanding of musical terminology and musical theory and their ability to use this knowledge to comment on a range of styles and types of music.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Description<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>S1-3 Broad General Education \u2013 During S1-3 pupils will receive a broad general education with experiences in performing \u2013 solo and group performing, composition, technology and music, listening to music.<\/p>\n<p>S4 Senior phase \u2013 This course is suitable for learners with a general interest in music. It allows learners to consolidate and extend musical skills, knowledge and understanding developed through S1 to S3. The different levels available are National 4 and National 5.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assessment<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>National 4: Internal assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Composing skills<\/li>\n<li>Understanding music<\/li>\n<li>Performing skills<\/li>\n<li>Added Value unit: Practical activity in Performance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>National 5: Internal assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Composing skills<\/li>\n<li>Understanding music<\/li>\n<li>Performing skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>External Assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Question Paper<\/li>\n<li>Perform on 2 instruments or 1 instrument and voice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Core Skills Involved: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Communication and Literacy, Numeracy, Technology, Working with Others<\/p>\n<p><strong>Careers subject is involved in:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following on from National 5 next steps would be Higher and Advanced Higher.
