The school (and other professionals) make use of the SHANARRI<\/strong> well-being indicators. These allow the school to assess the overall well-being of a child. So what does SHANARRI<\/strong> stand for?<\/p>\n

S – SAFE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Protected from abuse, neglect or harm at school, at home and in the community.<\/p>\n

H – HEALTHY<\/strong><\/p>\n

Having the highest attainable standards in physical and mental health, as well as access to health care. This also includes support in making healthy and safe choices.<\/p>\n

A – ACTIVE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Having opportunities to take part in activities such as play, recreation and sport. This contributes to healthy growth and development at home and in the community.<\/p>\n

N – NURTURED<\/strong><\/p>\n

Having a nurturing place to live, in a family setting with additional help as needed.<\/p>\n

A – ACHIEVING<\/strong><\/p>\n

Being supported and guided in their learning and in the development of their skills, confidence and self esteem – at home, at school and in the community.<\/p>\n

R – RESPECTED<\/strong><\/p>\n

Having the opportunity to be heard and involved in the decisions that affect them.<\/p>\n

R – RESPONSIBLE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Having opportunities and encouragement to play active roles in their school and community.<\/p>\n

I – INCLUDED<\/b><\/p>\n

Having opportunities to overcome social, educational, physical and economic inequalities and being accepted in the community in which they life and learn.<\/p>\n
