North Isles Numeracy Day

To celebrate Numeracy Week, we organised for all of the Unst, Yell and Fetlar Primary and Early Years students to come together for a Numeracy event in Baltasound JHS.

This involved all of the teachers across Unst, Yell and Fetlar working together to plan activities for our students that promoted numeracy skills, team working and problem solving.

Our teachers had to work together and deliver a series of lessons which allowed our year groups to work together; a great opportunity for our staff to work with larger cohorts and moderate with teachers who teach at similar level in another school. And also a fantastic opportunity for our students to work (and play!) with more children their age, from across the North Isles of Shetland.

The day also included escape room & maths challenges, combination locks, archery, water containers, treasure hunts, our S2 Scratch BINGO game and STEM input from Skills Development Scotland. It was a great day for all of us and one we will build on throughout the year and into the future. Thanks to all to took part.
