Scottish Fire & Rescue Service

We had a visit from the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service this week – with our very own Mrs Hunter (P.E. / R.E. / P.S.E. Teacher) who is also Firefighter Hunter at the Unst Community Fire Station. Also with Firefighter Hunter, was Firefighter Pottinger, one of our parents.

People Who Help Us is our topic in Lower Primary and we had lots of fun learning about the role of the fire service, what equipment they take on the fire engine and how to keep ourselves and others safe. We also got to use the hoses and branches (the bit at the end of the hose which lets the water shoot out) – which was brilliant.

In BJHS, Mrs Hunter and Mr Thomson are retained firefighters. And amongst the 9 fire crew at the Unst station, all of them are either BJHS parents or former pupils.
