Global School Play Day

We celebrated Global School Play Day 2026 today!

We were delighted to see Early Years, Primary and S1–3 pupils all taking part in play throughout the day. Pupils played together across stages and ages, working collaboratively, building friendships and learning from one another. It was fantastic to see mixed age groups coming together to enjoy games such as Traitors, alongside a wide range of creative and social play activities.

Global School Play Day is an important reminder that play is a child’s right (UNCRC Article 31) and a vital part of learning and wellbeing. Through play, pupils develop key meta skills such as communication, collaboration, creativity, problem solving and resilience. These skills support learning across the curriculum and help children and young people to thrive both in and beyond school.

The day also links closely to our school improvement priorities, particularly our focus on developing play pedagogy as we work towards the Play Pedagogy Award. Unstructured, child led play allows pupils to take ownership of their learning, make choices and work things out together in meaningful ways.

Most importantly, the day was full of fun, laughter and learning. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success. We hope you enjoy sharing a glimpse of the learning, teamwork and enjoyment captured in the photos.
