Alongside Mid Yell JHS, our S3 pupils recently took part in the annual Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) final. This project allows pupils to engage with local charities as they research and create a presentation to deliver to an audience. Seven local charities were represented; Women’s Aid, Shetland Bereavement Support Service, Yell for Cancer Support, Mind Your Head, Shetland Foodbank, Advocacy Shetland and Dogs Against Drugs.
We are very grateful that these local charities could give up some of their time to support our pupils, allowing them to gain deeper knowledge of the service’s needs, and how they can be involved in supporting the Shetland community. After much deliberation, the judges, including a community development officer and members of the pupil and parent Councils of both schools, awarded the £3000 cheque to the group representing Mind Your Head.
Congratulations to the winning team and a huge thank you to the judges, who had a very tough job to do!
