Up Helly Aa

Up Helly Aa is special time of year for all of us in BJHS and in Unst. We are lucky to have 2 fire festivals (Uyeasound and Norik) and we have had both Jarl’s Squads in school this year – for the first time in 3 years.

In preperation we have learned about our Viking past and made shields and axes. We also hosted a Coffee Morning for visitors to the school – this was organised by our S4 pupils working towards their SQA Enterprise & Employability award.

The Norik Jarl’s Squad also shared their love of reading with the pupils – linking to our School Improvement Reading priority this year. It was brilliant to see so many former pupils, mums and dads coming into school.
